About Andy Young

Andy Young grew up in the business, literally. At nine years old, he was working alongside his father in the family's printing shop in Middleton, Wisconsin. That wasn't a hobby. It was an education in how communication moves, how paper works, and why it matters when it doesn't.

At 25, he left to found Emerge, one of the earliest companies to commercialize Adobe Acrobat and PDF technologies — before most of the industry understood what a PDF was. Emerge was eventually acquired by Ikon Business Solutions, now part of Ricoh USA.

What followed was a career that refused to stay in one lane: building one of the first contextual e-commerce platforms connecting artists to merchandise in streaming music (a concept that preceded what Spotify and others would later adopt), leading global software strategy at Ricoh, and serving as Principal Analyst and Consultant at Keypoint Intelligence — one of the most respected research firms in print and imaging.

Today, Andy runs TreelinePress — a research and commentary practice covering the real transformation of customer communications. It spans a Substack publication read by practitioners across the industry, primary market research for enterprises and vendors who need validated data, and speaking and consulting engagements for organizations navigating the shift from legacy print to digital-first operations.

Why Treeline Press?

Why Treeline Press?

TreelinePress exists because the industry was drowning in press releases and calling them insights.

Andy built something different: a reader-supported publication built on primary research, real data, and analysis that doesn't bend to sponsor relationships or conference agendas.

The Substack covers the transformation happening at the intersection of print, mail, digital communications, and customer experience — with a specific focus on regulated industries: financial services, insurance, healthcare, and beyond.

Paid subscribers get access to full benchmark studies, early research findings, direct commentary, and conversations with industry leaders. It's not a newsletter. It's a working analyst's notebook, published openly.

The industry is moving. TreelinePress exists to document exactly where — and what it means for the people making decisions inside it.engagements for organizations navigating the shift from legacy print to digital-first operations.
